Renewing Your Work Permit (EAD)

Here’s how to renew your Employment Authorization Document (EAD) and keep your work authorization legal:

Check & Prepare:

  1. Check Expiration: Can you renew up to 180 days before it expires? Apply ASAP if already expired.

  2. Get Form I-765: Download it from USCIS (.gov) or call for a paper copy.

Gather & Pay:

  1. Supporting Docs: Copy of current EAD, previous EADs (if any), and others listed on the form.

  2. Filing Fee: Check USCIS website for current amount and acceptable payment methods (fee waivers may apply).

Complete & Submit:

  1. Fill Out Form I-765: Be accurate and double-check for errors.

  2. Mail Application: Send it with supporting documents and fee (if applicable) to the USCIS lockbox address (check website for details).

Track & Receive:

  1. Receipt Notice: USCIS will send confirmation with a tracking number.

  2. Biometrics Appointment (if required): Attend if USCIS requests fingerprints, photos, and signature.

  3. Processing Wait: Allow several months for USCIS to process your application. Track status online using your receipt number.

  4. Decision & New Card: USCIS will mail a decision notice (approval or denial). If approved, you’ll receive your new EAD in the mail.
